Travel Routes >> The N2 and Garden Route (Western Cape)
The N2 from Cape Town to Storm's River and then on to Port Elizabeth is a popular scenic route. The stretch between Mossel Bay and Nature's Valley is known as the Garden Route for its lush greenery and Tsitsikamma Forest and offers beautiful views of dense forests and rolling mountains as well as white sandy beaches and sparkling oceans. From Cape Town the N2 passes through the farming areas of Caledon, Riviersonderend and Swellendam and then on to Riversdale and Albertinia.
The first glimpse of the sea is at Mossel Bay and the road then hugs the coastline past Herolds Bay and George. The quaint towns of Wildnerness and Sedgefield are nestled between mountain, sea and a series of vlei's (lakes) offering wonderful opportunities for canoeing and boating. The N2 then passes through the picturesque town of Knysna and carries on through the lush Tsitsikamma Forest to the popular seaside town of Plettenberg Bay. It's well worth taking the slight detour to visit Nature's Valley where time has stood still and a handful of homes are nestled amongst the thick greenery. The N2 carries on to Storm's River which marks the end of the official Garden Route.
